Members and the broader community convened at APNIC 62 to evaluate the organization's standing and chart its course ahead. The gathering surfaced three dominant themes: movement toward financial equilibrium, ongoing efforts to reinforce APNIC and the wider Internet Number Registry ecosystem via grassroots processes, and strategic insights from the 2026 APNIC Survey that will inform future direction.

The conference drew 584 attendees representing 54 economies. More than 50 community voices participated in open mic forums, while the Executive Council engaged directly with Members, community figures, and regional stakeholders throughout the event. The APNIC Executive Council expressed gratitude to all participants, noting that their input will feed into development of the 2028-2032 Strategic Plan launching next year.

Financial sustainability

The EC continues to prioritize financial stability. At the Member Meeting, attendees learned that first-half operations aligned with the 2026 Activity Plan and spending remained disciplined. APNIC is projecting a full-year operating deficit of AUD 209,000, down from the budgeted AUD 308,000 shortfall.

The organization expects to reach a balanced budget by 2027. Beyond that milestone, sustaining financial health will demand careful choices about which activities to maintain, scale back, or retire as membership expansion moderates. Operational improvements will remain essential to this effort.

Members received briefings on the investment portfolio, the disposition of the 6 Cordelia Street property, and reserve management strategy. These matters drew considerable attention during public comment periods, and organizers welcomed the constructive remarks offered. Detailed information appears in the Executive Council report, Treasurer's report, and archived session video.

Enhancing governance through community participation

Multistakeholder involvement remains integral to APNIC's model and to strengthening both the organization and the global Internet Number Registry framework. The EC acknowledged contributions from community leaders Maemura Akinori, Nicole Chan, Dr Devesh Tyagi, Di Ma, and Gaurav Kansal to the ICP-2 Review and RIR Governance Document initiatives.

The APNIC Open Policy Meeting examined seven policy proposals—the highest tally in recent memory—with two achieving consensus. A parallel discussion addressed cultivating the next wave of community leaders. A Community Consultation on Increasing Diversity in Community Leadership identified both obstacles and possibilities, including ways to deepen Members' connection to APNIC and create sustained pathways for emerging talent.

Attendees underscored the significance of the APNIC Fellowship Program, particularly its contribution to developing future leaders in less-developed economies. The Secretariat is now synthesizing consultation results for EC review to determine subsequent actions.

APNIC's future strategic direction

APNIC 62 coincided with the unveiling of 2026 APNIC Survey results. An independent research firm, commissioned by the EC, gathered responses from more than 1,300 Members and community stakeholders. The data delivers a statistically sound picture of how the community views APNIC's track record, emerging requirements, and strategic priorities.

Results demonstrate consistently robust confidence in trust, service delivery, membership value, and organizational effectiveness. A striking finding was the diversity of priorities cited by respondents. Rather than clustering around a handful of concerns, participants stressed the importance of APNIC's full range of work—activities that sustain registry operations and foster an open, resilient, and secure Internet across the Asia Pacific.

The EC will release a formal statement later in the year describing how survey findings will shape the next Strategic Plan.

Stay involved

The EC thanked all who took part in APNIC 62 and the Member Meeting. Members are invited to remain active through consultations, policy forums, governance work, and the APNIC EC Contact Form. Sustained community engagement ensures the EC stays attuned to Members' needs and makes sound choices about APNIC's trajectory.
