GitHub Copilot now supports GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's latest general-purpose model built for extended autonomous coding workflows and agent-based tasks.

During internal evaluation, GPT-6 Astra distinguished itself through its methodology rather than output alone. The model employs a strategy of continuous planning and validation, merges diagnostic work with verification steps, and self-validates outcomes before marking tasks as complete. This approach yielded measurably better results on extended coding assignments, accomplishing them with fewer iterations than earlier OpenAI models.

The model operates under standard provider pricing with consumption-based billing. Consult the GitHub Copilot models pricing documentation for specifics.

The deployment will proceed in phases. If the model is not yet visible in your environment, check back later.

Enabling access

Administrators managing Copilot Enterprise or Copilot Business deployments can regulate GPT-6 Astra availability using the model policy settings in Copilot configuration. Under the default model enablement setting, fresh models activate by default unless an administrator has disabled the global default or explicitly restricted this particular model.
