Anthropic has begun requesting that Claude users opt into sharing their voice conversations as training material for refining its artificial intelligence models. When accessing Claude's voice capabilities, users encounter a new prompt requesting permission to use their audio data for model improvement purposes.

The company's prompt states: "Allow us to use your voice data to improve our AI models." It continues: "Audio recordings and voice chat data help improve how Anthropic AI models understand and respond to speech. Turn this off or delete this data anytime in settings."

Participation in this program is entirely voluntary. Users can select either Allow or Not now, and a dedicated control exists within Claude's Privacy settings to manage this preference.

The voice data training feature operates independently from Anthropic's existing mechanism for using chat and coding sessions to train models. This separation allows users granular control: they could authorize voice data sharing while excluding regular conversations and Claude Code sessions, or maintain the opposite arrangement.

Voice data toggle disabled by default

Within Settings > Privacy, Anthropic labels the option as "Allow us to use your voice data." The setting description reads: "For approved sessions, allow the use of your audio recordings and voice chat data to improve Anthropic AI models."

The toggle comes deactivated by default, meaning Anthropic is not automatically enrolling users in voice recording sharing. Users retain the ability to disable the setting at any time, and Anthropic permits deletion of voice data through the settings interface if users change their decision.
