AWS representatives participated in Open Source Summit Korea 2026 and MCP DevSummit Seoul 2026 last week, engaging with developers and maintainers from the OpenSearch and Valkey communities. The four-day gathering brought together Linux Foundation project leaders and users to exchange ideas, work on collaborative initiatives, and advance these open source initiatives.

OpenSearch and Valkey updates

OpenSearch, an enterprise-grade open source search and observability platform for managing unstructured data at volume, saw OpenSearch 3.7 launch on June 9, 2026, introducing query, alerting, and SLO tracking capabilities across logs, traces, and metrics through a unified interface. The release also delivers vector retrieval speeds up to 5.5x faster. Starting July 30, 2026, OpenSearch 3.7 runs on Amazon OpenSearch Service with enhancements to vector search performance, search relevance, and Query Insights.

Valkey, an open source high-performance key-value store supporting caching, message queues, and primary database workloads, released version 9.1 on May 19, 2026. The update features a redesigned I/O threading model that boosts throughput by up to 17% and cuts memory consumption for strings under 128 bytes by up to 20%. Since June 23, 2026, Valkey 9.1 is available on Amazon ElastiCache for node-based clusters, offering higher throughput, better memory efficiency, and enhanced access control for multi-tenant environments.

Key AWS launches

  • Amazon EC2 application status checks: EC2 now includes a status check mechanism to identify and address application-level problems on instances. The feature monitors for issues including stopped web servers, missing Docker daemons, misconfigured networking, and failed network interfaces.   • AWS IAM role manager: A new role manager automates IAM role provisioning for AWS services. When setting up a supported service through the console, the manager either creates a default role or reuses an existing one that meets the required permissions.   • OpenAI Daybreak on Amazon Bedrock: Daybreak, OpenAI's cyber defense initiative, is now available to eligible customers on Bedrock, providing controlled AI access for security operations. Daybreak Blue, powered by GPT-5.6 Sol, serves as the entry point for vulnerability discovery, detection engineering, and incident response. Daybreak Red, powered by GPT-5.6 Cyber, handles advanced authorized work including vulnerability research, exploit reproduction, and mitigation development.   • Foundation models in Amazon SageMaker JumpStart: AWS expanded its foundation model selection to address enterprise AI use cases with specialized capabilities, including NVIDIA's Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, NVIDIA's Nemotron-Nano-12B-v2, Z.ai's GLM-5.2 FP8 and GLM-OCR, NVIDIA's LocateAnything-3B, Qwen-AgentWorld-35B-A3B, and Qwen3.5-122B-A10B, Black Forest Labs' FLUX.2-small-decoder, Google's gemma-4-12B-it, Redis's langcache-embed-v3-small, JetBrains' Mellum2-12B-A2.5B-Thinking, and LightOn's LightOnOCR-2-1B.

Additional AWS developments

  • AWS Certificate Manager email validation deprecation: ACM will end support for email-validated public certificates on September 30, 2027. Users relying on email validation must transition to DNS validation before the deadline. HTTP validation is also an option for Amazon CloudFront distributions.
  • Next-generation AWS VPN Client: A new AWS VPN Client built on OpenVPN3 offers full backward compatibility with existing AWS Client VPN endpoints while adding automation and enterprise security controls.
  • Oracle Exadata on Exascale for Oracle AI Database@AWS: ExaDB-XS delivers Exadata-class performance and availability through a consumption-based pricing model, allowing independent scaling of compute and storage in small increments with pay-as-you-go billing.
