Streaming Applications to Any Device

Amazon AppStream 2.0 is a managed service that enables vendors to centrally host desktop applications and stream them securely to users on any supported device. Applications become instantly accessible through a web browser, eliminating the need for downloads or local installation.

The service supports three primary use cases for software vendors seeking to expand their market reach:

  • Deliver web-based software demonstrations, trials, and training programs that allow prospective customers to experience applications immediately
  • Build software-as-a-service platforms that extend product availability to new customer segments without requiring code rewrites
  • Provide preconfigured application images that facilitate customer transitions to cloud-based infrastructure

Workshop Project Series Overview

The workshop series provides hands-on guidance across three distinct projects, each addressing a specific vendor scenario using AppStream 2.0 alongside complementary AWS services.

The Three Projects

  1. Create an online software trial with AppStream 2.0, allowing customers to test applications directly in a web browser without any local setup
  2. Share a preconfigured AppStream 2.0 image to support customer cloud migration, enabling them to use existing product licenses within their own AWS accounts
  3. Develop a SaaS portal with AppStream 2.0 that delivers a fully functional web-based subscription model for desktop applications without code modification

Initial Setup Requirements

Each project begins with foundational configuration steps. Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) hosts the static website content, while the workshop uses Example Corp. as a reference organization with associated digital assets such as logos and branding materials. Participants may substitute their own assets to customize the experience. Additionally, an email address identity must be verified in Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES) to enable customer communication.

AWS Services Involved

Beyond AppStream 2.0, Amazon S3, and Amazon SES, the workshop series incorporates AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM), AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and Amazon Cognito across one or more projects.
