Effective immediately on September 10, 2026, MAI-Code-1-Flash has been removed from all GitHub Copilot services. The discontinuation affects every Copilot feature, spanning Copilot Chat, inline editing capabilities, ask functionality, agent modes, and code completion tools.

Users must transition their existing workflows and integrations to leverage an alternative supported model. For organizations running Copilot Enterprise, administrators will need to grant access to replacement models by adjusting model policies within Copilot configuration settings. Administrators can confirm model availability by reviewing their Copilot settings directly and verifying that the desired model's policy is activated. Once a model policy is enabled, the corresponding option will surface in the model selector within VS Code's Copilot Chat interface and on github.com. The deprecated model will be automatically removed without requiring manual intervention.

GitHub Enterprise clients experiencing difficulties or requiring clarification should contact their dedicated account manager for support and guidance.

Additional information regarding available Copilot models can be found in GitHub's official documentation. The GitHub Community Discussion forum is available for users wishing to provide feedback on this change.
