Starting July 31, 2026, GitHub has removed support for specific AI models from its Copilot platform. The deprecation affects all Copilot features, spanning Copilot Chat, inline editing capabilities, ask functionality, agent modes, and code completion services.

Teams using these models must transition their existing workflows and integrations to supported alternatives. For Copilot Enterprise deployments, administrators bear responsibility for enabling access to replacement models through the model policy settings available in Copilot configuration. Administrators can confirm model availability by reviewing their individual Copilot settings and verifying that the policy governing the desired model has been activated. Once the policy is enabled, the model becomes available in the Copilot Chat model selector within VS Code and on github.com. Removal of the deprecated models occurs automatically without requiring manual intervention.

GitHub Enterprise customers experiencing difficulties or requiring clarification should contact their designated account manager for support and guidance.

Additional information regarding available Copilot models can be found in GitHub's model documentation. The GitHub Community forum remains available for users wishing to provide feedback on these changes.
